Malone Strong: A Photobook
Malone Strong is a photo-driven narrative that aims to capture the spirit of a place described as “a little redneck and a little more than rustic” by depicting moments of Malone, a North Country town only ten miles south of New York’s border with Quebec. Photographed in March 2016 while visiting my friend and her family, the final book was produced for the Spring 2016 course “Photographer as a Storyteller” at Middlebury College. My desire to tell the story of a place rich in shared history and culture, where people’s families had been there for generations, was due to the lack of deep roots I have in one place. While most of the book's content is my own photographs, also included are the words of two Malone residents, which I felt important to add so that the narrative was not solely informed by an outsider's perspective.
